Stack Hash: a permalink to your folder
The # control in a folder's header gives that folder a direct address. In the web app, choose Set Permalink, then copy the address from your browser. Clicking the active # control again clears the folder permalink from the address. In the extension popup, Copy Permalink copies the folder's web address directly.
The address follows the folder when you rename it or move it elsewhere in your Collection. You can use it to return to the same folder without opening each parent folder along the way.
Save another entrance to the same folder
Save a folder's permalink as a bookmark in the same account to create a folder link. Folder links use the # icon, connecting them visually with Stack Hash. Open one to go to its destination, or inspect its details to see where that folder currently lives.
A folder link, also called a symlink, points to the original folder. For example, keep a Research folder in one place and add links to it inside several project folders. Every link opens that same Research folder, so changes to its contents are visible whichever route you take.
Move, link, or copy a pinned folder
Drag a folder from your stacks into the quick bar to pin it. To place that folder elsewhere, drag its quick-bar shortcut onto a folder or between items in a stack. Start the drag, then hold the key for the action you want while releasing the mouse.
If both modifiers are held, Shift takes precedence and creates a copy. The quick-bar shortcut stays pinned to the original folder after all three actions. A folder cannot be moved or copied into itself or one of its descendants.
These drop shortcuts apply to pinned folders dragged from the quick bar into stacks. Dragging a pinned website bookmark into a stack adds a copy of that bookmark. Dragging a shortcut out of the quick bar and dropping it away from the stacks removes only the shortcut.
Press and hold any quick-bar shortcut for about a second to show removal buttons. Click a shortcut's close button to remove it; the buttons stay visible so you can remove more. Click elsewhere or press Escape to finish. Removing a shortcut leaves its original bookmark or folder in place.
What changes when a folder or link changes?
Deleting a folder link leaves its destination folder intact. Deleting the destination leaves the link without an available folder to open. You can rename a link separately from its destination. When you copy a folder containing folder links, those links continue to point to their existing destinations.
Access stays privateStack Hash addresses and folder links do not publish your Collection or grant another person access. The destination still requires access to its account. Use WebCull's sharing controls when you want to share a Collection.
